KNYSNA NEWS - Once again, with a change of season upon us and half price sales of summer stock taking place in retail stores around town, the Knysna Red Cross Charity Shop is in desperate need of, among other things, autumn and winter stock.
Although the Red Cross training centre has received some of the aid that came into Knysna after the fire, the shop is completely separate from the training centre and is self-funded by the donations received from the public on a day-to-day basis.
But in turn, it is the shop that helps to fund the training centre which focuses on various community projects around Knysna, including the distribution of the aid that was received.
"We are in need of autumn/winter clothing, boots and shoes of all kinds, any surplus summer clothing as well as underwear, stockings and leggings.
"We also need bedding, curtains, kitchenware, bathroomware, towels, carpets and rugs, all kinds of goodies for around the house i.e. bedside lamps, side tables, wall mirrors and pictures, garden chairs, garden tools etc.
"Many financially strapped people are still desperately struggling to refurnish their homes after the fire.
"We will accept anything provided it is not obsolete, is in working order and we can get a price for it. It doesn't matter what it is – as long as we can sell it to raise money.
"We also need school goodies, bags, sports equipment, sportswear, dictionaries, bibles, toys, kids' books, novels (recent and bestsellers if possible), anything that will fetch a price.
"We have had some complaints from potential donors of not being able to find parking to drop off donations, so if you would like to donate to our shop please call us beforehand on 044 382 2655 or 076 458 5966 to arrange a time to enable us to have somebody available to help you offload while you are temporarily stopped directly outside the shop.
"We find that when people dropping off donations stop their cars directly outside the shop and put on hazard lights they are not hustled along by anyone too quickly.
The shop hours are 10:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday, and 09:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays.
Should you not be able to deliver your donation, they can collect depending on the quantity and quality of the donation and the area in which you live.
Unfortunately in the past, they have been taken advantage of and sometimes end up carting trash and unwanted junk and broken goods away at no cost to the "donor". This costs time, money and resources.
Please call the above numbers should you wish to enquire about what other goodies you may want to donate.
"We also have the kind services of a local company from time to time to help with donations of goods such as beds, furniture, lounge suites, fridges, cupboards, drawers, TVs and so on.
"We also accept reusable building and construction goods such as window frames, doors, shower door enclosures, light fittings, lamp shades, leftover tins of usable paint etc. and goods needed in renovations and building of structures.
As always, Knysna Red Cross Charity Shop thanks you with love and gratitude from the bottom of our Red Cross hearts for all the love and support that has been so generously demonstrated by the residents of Knysna and surrounding areas.
