KNYSNA NEWS - Local Knysna brewery Mitchell's has raised funds for fire victims through the sale of its beer.
Managing director Hein Swart said this week, November 14, that Mitchell’s is pleased to announce that an amount of R7 500 has been raised so far.
"Until the end of November 2017, Mitchell’s Brewery will be donating 20c from the sale of every bottle or draught of Foresters lager to the #KnysnaRises fund in an attempt to further alleviate the crisis," said Swart, who believes "charity begins at home".
"As a longstanding part of Knysna’s fabric, it’s essential for Mitchell’s to use its commercial traction to assist in reviving the infrastructure that supports tourism and job opportunities in the region," he added.
Mitchell’s Brewery was established in Knysna in 1983.
"Forester's was originally brewed to quench the thirst of the Knysna lumberjacks working in the abundant timber forests, so Mitchell’s feels strong empathy for the devastation caused by the recent blaze," said Swart.
Bottles and four-packs of Foresters still carry #KnysnaRises stickers (supplied at no cost by MCC Labelling in Paarl), encouraging consumers to donate directly to the cause.
Knysna Tourism is working closely with Knysna Rotary, who will channel the funds raised by Mitchell’s to the tourism and leisure industry, enabling job creation.
Mitchell’s beers, and Foresters in particular, are available nationally at Pick n Pay, Makro, Ultra Liquors, Tops and Norman Goodfellows, as well as Checkers in the Southern and Western Cape.
The public are encouraged to continue to support this valuable cause.
