KNYSNA NEWS - Residents of the Heads in Knysna have been struggling without water since Tuesday.
According to some they are relying purely on water tanks for their daily needs since upgrades to the pipe system caused an unexpected break earlier this week.
Restaurants and accommodation establishments have had an even tougher time.
According to Ward 9 councillor Mark Willemse the issue should be resolved later today, although he could not give the Knysna-Plett Herald an estimated time. He had just returned from a visit to the pipe breakage.
He said that during the current upgrade to replace the old water reticulation system, the appointed contractor caused a fault in the system which resulted in the loss of water supply to certain areas.
"This is a long term project that was already approved in the previous financial year. The pipe burst was most likely caused by pressure differences. Emu Crescent was where the original problem occurred. The old system is quite intricate and the burst was very difficult to reach," he said.
He added that the contractor has been working on the problem for the last two days.
"I know it has been a very trying time but we ask residents for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
