PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett will soon be a hive of activity as local crime fighters and emergency volunteers host a fundraising event.
Aptly named the "FUNdraiser" and hosted by the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA), it is set to include a host of activities and entertainment at the Piesang Valley Community Hall and grounds on 12 August.
The event is not only being hosted to raise funds for security and emergency volunteers, neighbourhood watch groups, farm support and response units, but also for other local organisations that rely on donations.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the people who risk their lives to keep the Plettenberg Bay community safe.
The highlight of the event is set to be a performance by South African singer Pieter Smith. Smith said he was looking forward to visiting "the most beautiful town in South Africa". He also said he had fond memories of performances in the Piesang Valley Community Hall dating back about two decades.
Other entertainment includes something for young and old - from face painting, miniature train rides, a jumping castle and miniature golf to a potjiekos competition, music and a cash bar.
"The reality is, Bitou volunteers cannot sustain their work without the support and assistance of our community, community leaders and businesspeople," PBCPA operations head Otto Olivier said.
There will also be a donation box for those who want to contribute towards protective clothing and equipment for volunteers. The event will start at about 14:00 with potjiekos sales from 15:00. Smith's performance will start at 16:30.
Tickets can be purchased at PNA at the Market Square Shopping Centre as well as the Clean Shop, or through WhatsApp 083 271 1142.
