GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality (DM) requested that all seven local municipalities in its district establish their own disaster management advisory forum (DMAF).
The forums in Bitou, Mossel Bay, Hessequa and Kannaland have already been established while George, Oudtshoorn and Knysna are still in the process.
Once all B-municipalities in the district have established their forums, the chair and secretary of each forum would serve on the Garden Route DM's forum.
At the last Garden Route DM council meeting, it came to light that Knysna used to have an advisory forum, but it was discontinued due to a lack of interest.
However, it is stipulated that "the Knysna disaster manager is in the process of reestablishing a new DMAF that will be linked to one of his personal key performance indicators".
ANC councillor Stephen de Vries asked questions to clarify comments on the agenda to the effect that Knysna Municipality used to have a disaster management advisory forum.
