Harding started working for the Knysna NSRI as a rookie at the age of 24 and dedicated his life to rescue people in trouble. He was part of the Knysna NSRI team for 27 years and, from September 2008 until September 2014, he was the station commander.
"I started from scratch as a trainee and then became a crewman. As I grew in the team, I became a skipper, training officer and later the station commander."
In his private capacity he is also a boat examiner and authorised to train skippers and issue skipper licences.
