PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Municipality warned that a fire currently raging in Soetkraal behind the Crags/Redford Road area is closer to plantations than anticipated and therefore additional firefighting recourses are being deployed.
“All aerial resources will be moved from Denneoord, George and placed at the Plett airport. As soon as the fire crosses the last range before the plantations, all available resources will be deployed to suppress the fire,” the municipality said in a statement.
As part of a contingency plan MTO is busy also preparing firebelts North of the Keurbooms plantation for a counter burn. The Crags and Tsitsikamma SANParks Working om Fire teams will assist with the firebelts.
“Lookouts will be placed at Spitskop (MTO) and Brekfislaagte (SANParks) for the evening.”
