KNYSNA NEWS - Laughter and fun anecdotes abounded at the book launch of Fikile Hlatshwayo, award-winning author of Born to Travel.
The launch was held at the Turbine Hotel & Spa on Saturday 1 July and was an opportunity for book lovers and travellers to rub shoulders and mingle with the bubbly author.
Hlatshwayo previously published the successful travel book, Blacks do Caravan, in 2016. The book playfully recounts tales of Fikile and her family’s travels around the country. Her most recent book, Born to Travel, is a contrast to Blacks do Caravan and maps out luxury accommodation across South Africa.
Hlatshwayo’s writing aims at making travel accessible to all South Africans and breaking down misconceptions and stereotypes about travel demographics.
“With this book I am saying that travel is for everyone, for all South Africans,” says Hlatshwayo in her most recent book.
“I wish to encourage South Africans to explore their own backyards and enjoy local travel. My mission is to promote not only travel but also adventures and cultural experiences.”
Hlatshwayo plans to expand her books as part of a travel series and says that her next book will most likely feature the African diaspora. She hopes that her future books will help connect travellers across Africa and increase bilateral relations.
