KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality’s social development department, as part of a community outreach initiative, has invited residents and visitors to watch screenings of the nationally and internationally acclaimed movie Ellen: The Ellen Pakkies story over the next few weeks.
The film is based on the 2008 trial, and events leading up to it, of Ellen Pakkies, who was charged with murdering her drug-addict son as a final desperate attempt to deal with the problems that his addiction brought to their household.
The movie will be screened at various locations across the town and is open to all residents and visitors over the age of 16.
The movie is in Afrikaans with English subtitles.
It will be first shown at the Hornlee community hall at 14:00 on 9 April followed by a screening the following day, also at 14:00, at the AFM Church in Taloesie Street in Ward 11. It will then be shown at Chris Hani community hall at the same time on 11 April and again the next day, this time at 11:00, at the Sinethemba Youth Centre.
On 15 April the movie will be screened at Concordia High School at 14:30 followed by a screening on 16 April at the Brackenhill community hall at 12:00.
On 17 April residents can see the movie at the Masifunde Library at 14:00 and again the next day at the same time at the Rheenendal Primary School hall.
It is Smutsville’s turn on 7 May at 14:00 at the Smutsville community hall and finally at the Karatara community hall on 14 May, also at 14:00.
