This initiative formed part of a number of outreach programmes by the EES Sport Club," explains Veronique Klein, media liaison for the EES committee.
"The project included the cutting of grass and cleaning of specific areas on the premises. It was also agreed to assist the management of the home with a vegetable garden in future."
The EES representatives would also like to thank Eleanor Bouw-Spies and the management of Vermont for their input during the planning of this project, said Klein.
"Also, our main sponsor of the Emergency and Essential Services Sport Day, ABSA Bank, who assisted with the project."
They also expressed their gratitude to Douglas de Klerk at Van Halderen's garage, Clifton Muller of SuperSpar, Christo Matthee Tuindienste for the donation of wood and African Bank for their continued assistance with such initiatives.
Thirty-eight people each gave four hours of their time to help clean up the grounds of Vermont Old Age Home. The volunteers represented the Knysna Police, Knysna Municipality, ER24, Knysna Provincial Hospital, SANParks, as well as Forensic and Pathology Services.
