KNYSNA NEWS - A draft logo that incorporates the name Garden Route District Municipality has been completed and submitted to the district council, after which it will be sent to provincial government for approval before a public participation process could start.
This is according to the municipality's spokesperson Herman Pieters, who was asked regarding the name change from Eden DM to Garden Route DM.
In a media release that circulated in December 2017, DM mayor Memory Booysen explained the reasoning behind the name change, stating, “The regional tourism brand will still be known as Garden Route and Klein Karoo and will continue to be marketed in that way.
"By changing our name to Garden Route District Municipality does not mean that we see less value in the name Klein Karoo – we see the Klein Karoo as part of the Garden Route. When looking at the name 'Eden', it never included the name 'Klein Karoo', but people were still aware of it.”
According to Pieters, the next step will be to inform the Western Cape government, local government MEC Anton Bredell, of council’s decision and request to publish a notice about the name change in the Government Gazette.

“I can confirm that the draft logo has been completed and that the public participation process could start as soon as a month from now,” said Pieters this week.
