PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The police's second quarter crime statistics show that the decline in crime during lockdown is over and crime is returning to pre-lockdown levels. 

And following a recent burglary in Plettenberg Bay, authorities have warned residents to be vigilant in securing their properties, especially over the festive season.

Olivier warned that opportunists are always "lurking" and waiting for a chance to strike. 

"Everyone needs to be extra vigilant with their crime prevention efforts. These criminals know that when people are on holiday they tend to forget all the necessary security precautions they usually take."

These precautions include locking doors, closing gates, securing high-value items such as electronics and wallets, and setting alarms and security beams.

"We kindly request holiday rental agencies, B&Bs, homeowners who rent their houses out to holidaymakers, and even our locals to ensure the message gets out there: always stay alert and be crime wise."
