PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The four suspects who were arrested in connection with an attack on an elderly couple in the Crags on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay earlier this week, are scheduled to apply for bail on 26 March.
The men appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 19 March. The case was postponed and the suspects remain in custody until their next appearance.
It is alleged that five men armed with knives and pangas entered the home of the couple, a 63-year-old woman and 71-year-old man, at about 21:00 on Tuesday 16 March and demanded cash.
They allegedly tied the hands of both victims, assaulted the man and ransacked the home.
According to police the suspects took jewellery, two television sets as well as an undisclosed amount of cash before they fled the scene in the victim’s Isuzu Double Cab bakkie. The vehicle was later found abandoned on the N2 near the Tsitsikamma toll gate.
The police investigation took the team to a petrol station where a bank card of the victim’s was used to purchase items at about 06:00 on Wednesday morning.
While searching for the suspects, security on patrol in the vicinity arrested a man who fitted the description of one of the perpetrators. Further investigation took police to two different houses in Qolweni where three more suspects were arrested and some stolen items recovered.
Investigation into the matter continues.
