KNYSNA NEWS - Construction has started on a brand new public library in Khayalethu in Knysna’s Northern areas.
This 600 sqm building, at a cost of R8 million, will cater for approximately 13 000 residents, from Bongani, Concordia West, Khayalethu, Nekkies and Dam-se-Bos areas.
Mayoral Committee member Community Services Department, Cllr Welcome Salaze said that the current library could no longer satisfy the needs of the community due to population growth.
“To address the growing needs of the community, Council decided to construct a new building next to the Khayalethu community hall.”
“This state of the art building will offer the same great attributes that the other municipal libraries offer, like study facilities, access to information technology, children’s story time area and much more, all aimed at promoting a culture of learning and reading. We are very excited about this project and look forward to opening the facility.
Construction is expected to be completed by December this year, with the official opening in February 2019.”
