GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Fear not about a lack of things to do during the long weekend, because this year's Soul Festival on Saturday, 10 August in Mossel Bay, will be easy on your pocket, but offer fun aplenty.
Friday, 9 August is Women's Day and a public holiday.
The festival grounds on Market Street will be abuzz from 10:00 on Saturday, with buskers galore as well as live statues, classical ensembles, guitarists and even a few models strutting their stuff on the sidewalks.
Highlights of the day will include a festival of wine, live entertainment and a comedy lunch hour, hosted by the inimitable Aunt Ethel and featuring local storytellers such as Terry Olckers and local chefs as well as funny man Moses Williams, specially imported from George.
The entertainment programme features the best of local talent brought together by cabaret diva Petronel Baard and Youth Cafe facilitator and Mossel Bay's Got Talent judge, Max Makoko.
If none of this grabs your attention, the kids' carnival certainly will. Bring junior for the Klikkerland performance, to meet a superhero or pose for a selfie with a princess.
Find a treasure in the lucky draw or let the little ones enjoy having their faces painted or playing in the inflatables section.
For the young ones who love performing, there is an open mic event and a dance-off competition or if your youngster is a budding artist, let him take part in the art competition.
There will be Airsoft games which have their roots in military simulation. Worried about your toddler? Fear not, as there will be a dedicated area for pre-schoolers and toddlers.
For the adventurous culinary explorer, be on the lookout for stalls selling traditional food from all over Mossel Bay. Other stalls will offer arts, crafts and handmade goods. Also be on the lookout for the pop-up museum, featuring some of Mossel Bay's treasures on exhibition by a private collector.
The festival runs from 10:00 to 17:00. Entrance to the festival is free. For more information, visit www.soulfestival.co.za
