PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou Speaker Claude Terblanche, with the help of various other generous donors, gave back to the community he grew up in. Last week, donations were delivered to beneficiaries Formosa Primary and Plettenberg Bay Secondary schools – the two schools Terblanche attended.
"Thank you Plettenberg Bay for your generous donations which ensure lives are changed and dreams can be followed," he said during the handover.
"With your donations, we are giving our children the assurance that the community of Bitou is supporting them in their endeavours to reach their goals and aspirations, and taking control of their future."
He added that the donations joined a pool of other development initiatives in local schools.
"As a student of both the schools I have committed myself, [together] with various other stakeholders, organisations and former students, to continue to make a difference in the lives of our learners. With the already cold winter on our doorstep and parents still finding it difficult to keep their children warm and in school, today's donations will go a long way."

The handover included uniforms to the value of R16 000 and 40 extra pairs of school shoes. Sports equipment, donated by local businesses and residents, also formed part of the handover. "Sport has the power to change lives," Terblanche noted.
"This month as we celebrated Youth Day and [Youth] Month with themes and programmes accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future, it's highly recommended to acknowledge the importance of empowering our youth to create a prosperous and equitable society."
He also recognised that education plays a pivotal role in this process and that it is through access to education, knowledge, skills, and innovation that the youth can forge a path toward economic independence and sustainable development.
"Let's keep our kids in school and support the 'A child in sport is a child out of court' programme steered by me as ward councillor."
