EASTERN CAPE NEWS - Eastern Cape police are in the process of retrieving the body of a biker from below the Bloukrans Bridge in Tsitsikamma today.
The biker's GP registration motorbike was found unattended near Bloukrans Bridge in Tsitsikamma on Monday and his body was located beneath the bridge early yesterday, Tuesday 8 November, after a search and rescue unit abseiled to a certain level and confirmed that there was a body in the bushes.
“Attempts to abseil to the bottom from the 216m bridge were challenging, and the mission was temporarily aborted pending air support,” said Colonel Priscilla Naidu, Eastern Cape police spokesperson, in a statement.
She said the identity of the person is being withheld until the body has been retrieved and pending formal identification.
Naidu said Storms River police were alerted on Monday afternoon to the motorbike, that was parked partially in bushes near the Bloukrans Bridge.
A search was immediately conducted to locate the owner.
Police, using binoculars, spotted something “colourful” in the bushes below, which raised suspicion.
Members of the Gqeberha K9 Search and Rescue Unit, SAPS Diving Unit, Metro EMS from Gqeberha and Sarah Baartman District, as well as Storms River SAPS were deployed to the bridge early on Tuesday morning.
