At the Bid and Buy Art Exhibition on October 31 at 17:30, several of Barrett's oils on canvas paintings will be auctioned, and the proceeds will be donated to TLC.
After a period of 37 years, Barrett once again picked up his paint brushes on retiring in 2008. He attended a number of courses by Bob McKenzie and Sue Kemp and was soon painting as before.
Currently he concentrates mainly on impressionistic landscapes and loves travelling on his BMW motorbike into the Karoo to take photographs which he later replicates on canvas. "My love of art has become a serious hobby, bordering on a little professionalism of late, but the main ingredient is good, clean, healthy occupational therapy," said Barrett.
Artists such as Errol Boyley, Anton Benzon, Louis Audie, Chris Tugwell and Christiaan Nice have served as inspiration of his work. His favourite artists are Richard Tugwell and Christiaan Nice.
TLC invites everybody to enjoy drinks and snacks and the opportunity to meet Barrett at the Sedgefield Town Hall on October 31 from 17:30. For further information contact Peter Barrett on 082 759 5470 and Gilda Scammell on 084 544 1203.
For catering purposes Scammell asks that attendees RSVP to either herself or Barrett.
