KNYSNA NEWS - The court case of the 51-year-old man who allegedly murdered an 11-year-old boy in Hornlee, has been referred to the high court.
His trial is expected to start on Wednesday, November 11.
He was arrested for the murder of Abongile ‘Zama’ Mhani on Friday, February 13. According Nomabhongo Mhani, who was the boy’s guardian, the accused was well-known to the family and the boy was very fond of him.
Mhani recalled that when the boy, who was a learner at Fraaisig Primary School in Hornlee, did not return home from school, friends and family members started searching for him.
When the boy still wasn’t home at 21:00, she reported him missing at the Knysna Police Station.
She said soon after his arrest, the man took them to dense bushes near Hunter's Home and showed them where he had left Zama’s lifeless body. Mhani became very emotional when she recalled that there were shoelaces tied around Zama’s neck.
Magistrate Sam Mpambani said on Friday, August 14 that the accused will be appointed an advocate to represent him in Knysna’s Circuit High Court on November, 11.
