This operation included high visibility in crime hotspots, roadblocks, stop and search, closing of shebeens and the tracing of outstanding suspects.
The police arrested 16 suspects for possession of drugs and confiscated small amounts of tik, dagga as well as mandrax tablets. Two suspects were arrested for driving motor vehicles whilst under the influence of liquor.
The Station Commander of the Knysna police, Colonel Michael Taylor, said “fighting crime remains the responsibility of all. These type of operations will continue and a zero tolerance approach will be maintained for the rest of the month’’. Taylor also called on the public to come forward with any information on criminal activities.
“With our continued focus on the reduction of property related crimes in Knysna, we together with local security companies, arrested five suspects for being in possession of suspected stolen property and one for housebreaking and theft. An additional seven suspects were arrested for assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm and three for robbery.”
Detectives arrested eight suspects during tracing operations for outstanding warrants of arrest. These suspects were involved in serious crimes and evaded arrest for a long period of time.
