A total of 538 suspects were arrested during numerous crime prevention operations. This number includes a total of 118 suspects who were arrested for drug related offences.
The operations were conducted in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and local security companies. It also included the public order police, tactical response team and the Tsitsikamma Dog-unit. The operation was aimed at illegal drug outlets, property related crime and contact related crimes and crimes against woman and children.
According to the SAPS it is a well-known fact that there is a close link between the illegal drug outlets and property related crimes such as burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles. The police confiscated dagga (cannabis), Tik (crystal meth) and Mandrax during the operations.
A total of 14 arrests were made for robberies and 11 for house breaking and theft. Stop and search operations led to the arrest of eight suspects for possession of stolen property. The SAPS also recovered stolen items.
