GEORGE NEWS - Three of the six accused who were arrested on charges of extortion in March, a woman (28) from Knysna and two men (51 and 54) from Kuils River, Cape Town were released on bail of R5 000 each in the George Magistrate's Court on Thursday 28 March.
The case was then postponed to Tuesday 2 April, where it was postponed to Thursday 18 April for the bail applications of the other three accused in custody.
The group of five men and one woman were arrested during a sting operation at a house in Plattner Boulevard on Wednesday 20 March after police officers received information about alleged threats made to a business owner in the construction industry.
A sting operation was executed on the house where all six accused were arrested.
"During the arrest, police also confiscated cash, two licensed pistols and an imitation firearm found in possession of the suspects," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies.
All three applicants who were granted bail denied having any knowledge of extortion and intend to plead not guilty to the charges against them.
None of them have any previous convictions or pending cases against them.
They are also not deemed as flight risks. All six the accused will appear again on the next court date.
