PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The SAPS has launched a search for the suspect involved in a house invasion and the rape of a 78-year-old woman in Plettenberg Bay at about 10:00 on Tuesday 17 June.
Sergeant Christopher Spies, the Southern Cape SAPS’s spokesperson, said the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating a case of house robbery and rape.
“It is alleged that the victim was at her residence when she was accosted by a man who gained entry from the back. He forced her into a room where he assaulted and violated her. The suspect took jewellery and a cellphone before he fled the scene on foot,” said Spies.
The victim was later discharged from a medical facility after being treated and cared for.
“Crime scene experts combed the scene for clues and all leads are being followed,” said Spies.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Leslin Moos, has urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
