KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - With the downturn of the fourth wave of the pandemic continuing, the number of Covid-19 cases in Knysna and Bitou have decreased once again.
The drive to register as many members of the public as possible for vaccinations is also chugging along.
As at Monday 24 January the Western Cape has seen 2 856 788 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 50,90% of the eligible population. In the Garden Route a total of 252 043 people have registered for the vaccine, 50,91% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 35 890 vaccine registrations, which is 62,52% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 21 945 vaccine registrations, 51,64% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 25 January, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 612 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 178 have recovered, 282 have died, and 152 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 42, represents a decrease of 59,22% (-61) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases also decreased, falling by 48,47% (-143), with the number the lowest since 7 December 2021. The recovery rate has climbed to 95,48% (94,01% last week) while the mortality rate is 2,9%.
The deaths increased slightly, climbing by four.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 538 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 314 having recovered, 143 having died, and 81 being active cases. This shows 37 new cases recorded between 18 and 25 January, half of what was seen last week. This indicates a 50% (-37) decrease.
The active cases fell by 62,50% (-135) this week, and is also the lowest since 7 December 2021.
The recovery rate is now 95,96% (93,53% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,6%. After no increase last week, the deaths have risen by three.
