KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Amidst reallocation of Covid-19 cases, the Covid-19 figures in Knysna and Bitou have more than halved in the past week.
According to WC Department of Health spokesperson Nadia Ferreira, "regular reallocation and data updates are done which might have an impact on the statistics for a particular area. These are usually minor changes in the totals."
The total number of vaccine registrations in the Western Cape stands on 2 495 264 (44,46% of the eligible population), as at Tuesday 9 November. In the Garden Route district, a total of 223 237 individuals have registered. This represents 45,09% of the eligible population.
Knysna meanwhile has seen a total of 31 935 registrations (55,63% of the eligible population). In Bitou there has been a total of 18 955 registrations (44,60% of the eligible population).
As at Tuesday 9 November, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 078 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 810 have recovered, 256 have died, and 12 are active cases. We cannot draw a comparison in the number of new cases this week, due to the reallocations that took place. The active cases however dropped by 55,55% (-15) this week.
The recovery rate has increased slightly to 96,68% (96,50% last week), the highest percentage since the sub-district was on 100% recovery rate on 24 April 2020, while the mortality rate stays on 3,2%.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 352 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 212 having recovered, 137 having died, and three being active cases. This shows no new cases recorded between 2 and 9 November, the first time this has happened since 29 May 2020.
It is unclear whether or not this is due to reallocations in Bitou too.
The active cases dropped by 72,72% (-8) this week, the lowest number since 17 March when there were no active cases. Bitou's recovery rate is now 96,78% (96,60% last week), its highest percentage since the sub-district was on 100% recovery rate on 29 May 2020, and the mortality rate remains on 3,1%.
