KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - For the first time in almost a year-and-a-half Bitou has no active cases of Covid-19 while Knysna is at its joint-lowest number since May 2020.
As at Tuesday 19 July, the Western Cape has seen 3 035 767 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 54,09% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 264 632 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,45% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 387 vaccine registrations, which is 65,12% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 23 308 vaccine registrations, 54,85% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 19 July, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 142 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 844 have recovered, 294 have died, and four are active cases. There is one new case in Knysna this week.
The active cases have decreased by one this week to four - this is the third time that Knysna has shown this few active cases, and is the joint-lowest number since 8 May 2020. The recovery rate has remained the same: 97,06%. The deaths have increased by one, rising for the first time in a month-and-a-half.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 988 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 845 having recovered, 143 having died, and zero active cases. As with Knysna, Bitou recorded only one new case this week.
The active cases, however, are zero in Bitou. This is the first time since 17 March 2021, almost 16 months to the day, and it is only the second time since 29 May 2020 that this has happened in Bitou. The recovery rate increased and is now 97,61% (97,54% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%.
The deaths have not increased for the 19th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in either Bitou or Knysna during the pandemic.
