KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The number of active Covid-19 cases is still decreasing in both Knysna and Bitou, but both sub-districts also saw a slight upturn in new cases this week.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine continue to rise as the province nears three million registrations.
As at Monday 14 February the Western Cape has seen 2 902 759 registrations for the vaccine, 51,72% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 254 996 people have registered for the vaccine, 51,51% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 188 vaccine registrations, which is 63,04% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 186 vaccine registrations, 52,21% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 15 February, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 676 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 354 have recovered, 287 have died, and 35 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 18, represents an increase of 22,22% (+4) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases still decreased however, falling by 28,57% (-14), with the number the lowest since 30 November 2021. The recovery rate has climbed to 96,67% (96,54% last week) while the mortality rate is 3%. The deaths increased slightly, climbing by two again.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 641 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 446 having recovered, 143 having died, and 52 being active cases.
This shows 29 new cases recorded between 8 and 15 February, an increase of 11,54% (+3).
The active cases fell by 17,46% (-11) this week, which is the lowest since 7 December 2021. The recovery rate is now 96,54% (96,33% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have remained the same for three weeks in a row.
