KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The number of Covid-19 cases in both Knysna and Bitou have reached record lows this week, with both sub-districts experiencing their lowest figures of the year.
As of Monday 18 April, the Western Cape has seen 2 983 460 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,16% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route, a total of 260 175 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,55% of the eligible population.
In Knysna, there has been a total of 36 794 vaccine registrations, which is 64,09% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 625 vaccine registrations, 53,24% of the eligible population.

As of Tuesday 19 April, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 876 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 563 have recovered, 290 have died, and 31 are active cases.
The 12 new cases in the past week represent a decrease of 29,41% (-5) from the week before. It is the lowest number of new cases in Knysna this year and the lowest since 23 November 2021.
The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 25,81% (-8) - also the lowest number this year, and the lowest since 30 November 2021. The recovery rate has risen ever so slightly, up to 96,83% (96,75% last week). The deaths have remained the same.
In Bitou as of Tuesday, 5 742 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 588 having recovered, 143 having died, and 11 being active cases.
Two new cases were recorded between 13 and 19 April, a decrease of 84,62% (-11). As with Knysna, this is Bitou's lowest number of cases in 2022 and is the lowest since 16 November 2021.
The active cases have fallen by 52,17% (-12) this week - yet again the lowest number seen this year and the lowest since 23 November 2021. The recovery rate increased and is now 97,32% (97,11% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have not increased for the sixth week in a row.
