KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The Covid-19 figures in Knysna and Bitou have continued their upward trajectory, with the active cases nearly tripling in both sub-districts.
As the fourth wave creeps ever closer, the country is ramping up its vaccination efforts, including another countrywide Vooma Vaccination Drive campaign.
Vaccine registrations
As at Tuesday 7 December, the Western Cape has seen 2 699 729 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 48,10% of the eligible population. In the Garden Route a total of 240 245 people have registered for the vaccine, 48,53% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 34 305 vaccine registrations, which is 59,76% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 20 845 vaccine registrations, 49,05% of the eligible population.
Covid cases
As at Tuesday 7 December, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 133 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 830 have recovered, 257 have died, and 46 are active cases. The number of new cases this week, 33, is the most Knysna has seen in two months.
The active cases nearly tripled again this week, rising to 46 - a 253,85% rise (+33). The recovery rate has dropped to 96,27% (96,65% last week), the lowest percentage since 13 October, while the mortality rate stays on 3,2%.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 395 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 219 having recovered, 137 having died, and 27 being active cases. This shows 22 new cases recorded between 30 November and 7 December, a 29,41% (+5) increase.
The active cases rose by 225% (+27) this week, and is the highest number recorded in Bitou since 13 October.
The recovery rate is now 96,00% (96,59% last week), and the mortality rate remains on 3,1%.
