KNYSNA NEWS – While Knysna remained at a relatively stable level of active Covid-19 cases this week, the number of active cases in Bitou has nearly doubled. It is the largest percentage increase in active cases in the sub-district this year.
As at Monday 25 April, the Western Cape has seen 2 989 324 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,26% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 260 548 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,63% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 847 vaccine registrations, which is 64,18% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 659 vaccine registrations, 53,32% of the eligible population.

As at Monday 25 April, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 884 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 569 have recovered, 291 have died, and 24 are active cases.
The eight new cases in the past week is a decrease of 33,33% (-4) in new cases from the week before. It is now the lowest number of new cases in Knysna this year and the lowest since 23 November 2021.
The active cases however increased this week, rising slightly by 4,35% (-8) - but this is still the second-lowest number of active cases this year. The recovery rate has fallen ever so slightly, down to 96,81% (96,83% last week). The deaths have increased by one.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 757 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 593 having recovered, 143 having died, and 21 being active cases. This shows 15 new cases recorded between 19 and 25 April, an increase of 650% (+13) - Bitou's largest weekly rise in new cases this year.
The active cases have climbed by 90,91% (+10) this week - it is the highest percentage increase in active cases that Bitou has seen this year. The recovery rate decreased and is now 97,15% (97,32% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have not increased for the seventh week in a row - the longest such streak seen this year.
