KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Deli is celebrating one full successful year of supplying Knysna with the best there is in locally sourced fresh and tasty produce, with everything from special cheeses to Wagyu beef on offer in the store.
The deli is the brainchild of seasoned travellers-turned-Knysna-locals Mariska and Matt Bezuidenhout, who have long wanted to open up a deli of their own. But, with Matt working in the IT industry and Mariska plying her trade within a different corner of the hospitality industry, the chips hadn't quite fallen into place yet come early to mid-2020.
That was until Matt stopped under a tree on a run to catch a breath, glanced to his left, and spotted a property for sale with more potential than they could have dreamed of. "Matt immediately told me about it and we knew that this would be the best spot for us to finally turn our deli dreams into a reality," Mariska said.
It was the start of a months-long journey that would include the acquisition of the property and the subsequent revamping of the main building as well as the addition of some bike rails for cyclists. There was also the matter of making the deli kiddie-friendly, and for that Mariska turned to experts on the matter.
"Our children helped us put together our kiddies area. They love jungle gyms and a sand pit and so those were their suggestions and we just had to trust the experts," she said.
After renovations and a real hard family effort, the deli opened to the public on 5 November 2020. It's now a year later and Mariska and Matt are so proud. "We get such amazing support from our local clientele and we are immensely grateful. We cannot wait for the upcoming festive season!" Mariska said.
It's not hard to see why. With just about anything and everything on offer, Knysna Deli is sure to tantalise the taste buds of anyone and everyone. From locally sourced fresh produce to hot coffee brewed by trained baristas and a wide selection of cheeses coupled with delicious meats; if you like it, it's there.
The deli's offerings are very much influenced by Matt and Mariska's past travels around the globe, but they remain committed to offering this taste of the world with the help of local suppliers.
The vehicle entrance to Knysna Deli is at the end of Trotter Street, while there is pedestrian access from the Main Road too. You can get in touch with the deli on 064 505 8861.
The staff at Knysna Deli are their own family.
