BUSINESS NEWS - AER Helicopters, founded by aviator Duran de Villiers, has launched the first helicopter tour service in Knysna, to boost the town's tourism offerings.
With a passion for flying and a love for the skies, De Villiers has created a unique offering for locals and visitors alike - to explore the natural beauty of the Garden Route from above.
AER Helicopters offers a variety of thrilling flight packages in its state-of-the-art Airbus H-120, piloted by Chief Pilot Megan Klopper (31), who has been flying helicopters for 10 years.
Megan quips that 10 years ago not many people wanted to fly with her. Now, a seasoned pilot, it is a different story… as she deftly manoeuvres her charge seamlessly.
Among the flights offered are:
- Knysna Above (15 min): Soar over the world-famous Knysna Heads on this breathtaking journey.
- The Milk Run (30 min): "Our most popular flight, featuring low-level passes along the coast from Sedgefield to Buffels Bay, finishing with a scenic tour of the Knysna Heads and over the Knysna Lagoon."
"For those seeking a more personalised experience, we also offer private charters and custom flights all along the Garden Route," says De Villiers.
"Maybe there's a couple that wants to go to Cape Town on a date… we can arrange that.
"We offer Knysna something it doesn't have and a great tourist attraction. Knysna no longer has the old choo-choo… but this might be the new choo-choo - from the air!"
