JM & L Construction helps rebuild Knysna

KNYSNA BUSINESS NEWS - The company slogan states that JM & L Construction have been building Knysna for the past 25 years, and "now we will help rebuild Knysna".

These words ring as true as it gets for dozens of local residents whose homes were ravaged by flames in June last year, but who somehow manage to smile when they see the results of a rebuilt home by JM & L Construction.

Managed by Jèan Janse van Veuren, JM & L Construction has received not only heaps of praise and appreciation by his clients in the months that followed the fires, but also comes with "strong recommendation" by clients who are more than pleased with his quality workmanship and work ethic.

Van Veuren says that as a local resident of more than 25 years, and experience in the construction industry that spans even longer, he felt compelled to put his skills, time and effort into helping rebuild Knysna and in particular, residential homes.

“Together with a group of highly skilled artisans, JM & L Construction has prioritised customer satisfaction through a superior service. There are few things as rewarding as completely rebuilding a house from the foundation up, to the exact specifications of clients. The fires affected everyone, and to be sensitive to the needs of homeowners is really important to us. In a way it ensures that we go above and beyond expectations to deliver the finished home within just a few months and within a client's budget,” says Van Veuren, “As a company we want to give back to Knysna and all its residents, and it is for this reason that we are committed to providing highly skilled artisans to ensure the highest standards of construction.”

• Otto and Rosy Witzmann of 32 Rio Street lost almost everything in the fires. Their house was burnt to the ground and an invaluable classic car was reduced to ashes.

“Some things will never be replaced, like the antique furniture and chandeliers we had. We were contemplating a rebuild when we met Jean of JM & L Construction. He offered us a very affordable deal, and we signed it at a golf club on 28 October 2017, and we've never looked back since. He has been most obliging and never in a bad mood. If we wanted something changed he would immediately attend to it without complaints. From day one, he always had our best interests at heart,” said Otto.

“At times we changed our minds about certain aspects of the building, and he absorbed it all and never complained. Not only as a businessman but as a friend, Jean was there for us.”

Three-and-a-half months later and the house was completed and ready – a record time and the house looks amazing.

Otto said that he strongly recommends JM & L Construction as the best in Knysna who asks an excellent price, and only expects payment when it is due.

“He never pushed us for money, he was never demanding and he is easy to work with. What more can you ask for from a construction company?”

• Greg Speed of 3 Faure Street said that when the fire happened his family was very doubtful if anything could get done soon, and weren't even sure if they would rebuild.

“We came across JM & L Construction and signed him up on 31 July – and by 1 August he knocked down the structure and removed rubble. We were very impressed at his time management because just four months later the structure was complete and we were able to have a holiday in December in Knysna,” said Speed.

“He never went back on his word and contributed a lot to some ideas we had on the rebuild. Jean has always been open with us and was willing to talk things through. I must say that it's been a much better experience than anticipated and I would recommend him to anyone.”

• Ms Magru Muller of 4 Phantom Village, whose home was burnt down in the fires, also spoke highly of JM & L Construction.

“Jean is a really hard worker and a hands-on type of person. He was always available and displayed nerves of steel throughout the reconstruction phase of our home. I believe that under the circumstances he did really well and with the limited resources available in Knysna he really did an excellent job,” said Muller.

She added that JM & L construction delivered on promises and even when Jean's hands were full, he was still available to listen and strived to make sure clients were happy.

“I believe he is a very honest man and is well priced,” she added.
