Kets said that farmers have expressed a high level of interest in these farms, which range from 10ha and 440ha in size, and cost between R9 million to R60 million.
“Currently these farms do not house chickens or provide housing for staff. There are dormant chicken houses and mostly vacant residential houses on the farms,” explained Kets.
He highlighted the fact that many of the farms were suitable for conversion to storage facilities, while several could also be rezoned for commercial/residential development due to their favourable locations. He added that two of the farms had already been zoned for light industrial use.
