SEDGEFIELD NEWS & VIDEO - The Sedgefield Lions FUNdraiser, Once Upon A Night, is a must-see for all.
This year, this annual event is directed by Beverley Fowler and produced by Leigh-Ann Ralph, who founded the Sedgefield Melodrama.
In her "message from the director", Fowler praises all who are involved in this initiative, stating that the show is “a superb way for charities to benefit – for the community, by the community", and emphasizing that Sedgefield is blessed with an abundance of talent and even more goodwill.
The event on Friday 1 September was compered by the inimitable Bomber Webb, editor of local rag The Edge, who did not disappoint and, for those who support this event annually, many familiar faces could be spotted among the actors – locals from all professions and walks of life, who were prepared to “put it all out” for charity in the 34 skits performed.
The Disney Villains skit being performed on Friday 1 September at the Sedgefield Primary School as part of 34 skits making up the Sedgefield Melodrama 2017 show Once Upon A Night.
In addition to the funds raised by ticket sales, at the end of the evening the audience is encouraged to put money on their favourite numbers. The three items that bring in the most money are then performed again.
On Friday night, 1 September, more than R11 200 was raised and the actors performed an encore of the three acts that garnered the most support: the Disney Medley/Man Cub, Star Boobs and Barcelona, to rousing applause from the audience.
There are two more shows, on 7 and 8 September, so buy a ticket, pack a picnic and some liquid refreshment and head off to Sedgefield Primary School to enjoy the remaining performances.
Be there at 18:30 for 19:00. Tickets available from Sedgefield Tourism 044 343 2685.
This is some of the best entertainment around and, at a mere R90 per ticket, supports the fundraising effort of the Sedgefield Lions.
