KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Photographic Society holds theme-based in-house competitions three times a year as a way for members to continue improving their skills as photographers and to expose them to the community of Knysna and surrounds.
Members may enter two or three images that best represent their interpretation of the chosen theme, and the judging is undertaken by external independent judges.
The judges for this competition were Warren Fleming, Elle Redman and Basil Parker. Fleming and Redman are well-known local photographers in their own right, and Parker is a well-known Cape Town photographer.
The theme for the most recent competition was "Mellow Yellow", for which 88 images were submitted. The results were announced at a social evening held at the Knysna Golf Club on the evening of November 10.

Prize-giving
The categories are broken up into "junior" and "senior" photographers, the juniors being the one- to three-star photographers (those fairly new to photography), and the seniors are the four-star-plus (more advanced photographers).

- 2nd: Leoni Hattingh, two-star, for her image Work in Progress.
- 3rd: Penny Foyn, three-star, for her image Elegant Dinner.
- Highly commended: Tannje Strauss, three-star, for her image Fire Drill.
- Commended: Penny Foyn, for her image Happier Times.
- Commended: Graham Maskell, two-star, for his image Savanna.
- Commended: Leoni Hattingh, for her image Lingering Light.
- Commended: Mike Pienaar, three-star, for his image Where is Everybody.
- Special mention: Basil Michaelides, three-star, for his image Yellow Splendour.
- Special mention: Joan Louwrens, three-star, for her image Head in the Trough.
- 1st: Gill Maskell, four-star, for her image Mellow Mara Dawn.
- 2nd: Carol Phillips, five-star, for her image Water Drops.
- 3rd: Sandy Brady, four-star, for her image It's hot in the Kgalagadi.
- Highly commended: Paul Rixom, five-star, for his image Canola Windmill.
- Highly commended: Anne Hrabar, six-star, for her image On the Rocks.

- Commended: Anne Hrabar, for her image Brugmansia.
- Commended: Cathy Birkett, four-star, for her image Mellow in Yellow.
- Commended: Willie Dalgleish, five-star, for his image Mating Crab Spiders.
- Special mention: Gill Maskell, for her image Mellow Love.
- Macky Rixom, for her image Daisies 2.
- Lionel Phillips, for his image Hibiscus.
In the category Best Dressed according to theme, the prize was awarded to Leoni Hattingh and Joan Louwrens.

The Knysna Photographic Society holds meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at the Belvidere Manor Conference Centre at 18:30.
