ENTERTAINMENT KNEWS – As is custom every December and January, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay were once again hives of activity this festive season.
From three-day music festivals to one-night shows, there were events galore to spoil residents and holidaymakers.
If you're a resident that elects to stick around for December and January instead of fleeing the throng by going on holiday elsewhere, then you're no stranger to how busy Knysna and Plett can get in the festive season. Queues aren't limited to people in the shops, but include cars on the road. It's not only suitcases that are packed, but our beaches too.
Holidaymakers throng to our neck of the woods every year, and every year we need to find ways to entertain them (not that the locals aren't entertaining). To do this, we call in the reinforcements. Event organisers bring to Knysna and Plett some of the biggest names in South African entertainment to take our towns and stages by storm in ways that no tourist can.
One of the staples of the annual December and January festivities is Get Lucky Summer, GoodLuck's yearly concert series, and in 2022/23 they returned for their eighth running. The 2022/23 season comprised of five Knysna/Plett shows, including a three-day New Year's Eve festival in Plett. GoodLuck's Get Lucky Summer guests this year included Kix, Just Dru, DJ Casey, Gerry VDM, Majozi, Prime Circle, Will Linley, Steve Umculo, Msaki, Spoegwolf, Veranda Panda and Mango Groove.
They weren't the only three-day festival in Plett. Wanderbay also made a return. Hosted at Coco Valley, Wanderbay is three days of outright jolling just outside Plett and it featured a vast number of artists. There were also the two Corona Chasing Sunsets events in Plett and Knysna, with appearances from the likes of Zakes Bantwini and Sun-El Musician.
In Knysna, Better Live brought Blend Country Restaurant alive once more with performances by Jesse Clegg, Neon Dreams, Wonderboom, Springbok Nude Girls, Prime Circle, Lee Cole, Majozi and many more. AD's Pub and Dancefloor also got in on the action, welcoming Bok van Blerk, Loufi, Jack Parow and various local DJs such as DJ Dredd, DJ Ross and DJ Nukes to their venue.
There were also two Deep Intentions events in Knysna this season, a festive first. They welcomed a host of local and far-away DJs at their events, including Smoothe, The Duud, Rhett Pendock, Esmaralda, Roxy and Nazz.
Neon Dreams played to a sold-out crowd at Blend Country Restaurant once again.
