The band competed on Saturday, May 3 at the South Coast Highland Gathering in Amanzimtoti, in the first of three national championship competitions of the 2014 season.
The band won the overall Grade 4 competition outright, coming first in both of the two events in that category: the Marching Set and the March, Strathspey and Reel.
The band won both the piping and drumming in both events. The local lads also won the Best Drum Corps. The Knysna band was the biggest band at the competition, competing in all grades, with a strong band of 11 pipers and nine drummers.
Pipe Major Steve Collins said on returning “This was such a great start to the competition year and everyone was ecstatic with our results, especially with our drum corps winning a competition for the first time.”
