ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - After many successful decades on the road with music, the award-winning singer/songwriter, Jannie du Toit, has perfected the art of mesmerizing audiences with his outstanding musical productions.
This festive season is no exception and fans can look forward to a host of shows this December across the Free State, Northern Cape and all along the Cape coast - to end the year on a high note.
On several dates during December, Jannie (voice and guitar), Susan Mouton (cello and piano) and Chanie Jonker (piano and accordion) give life to the beautiful music of one of his heroes, Jacques Brel.
In Bonjour Monsieur Brel, Jacques' colorful texts are sung in four languages (Afrikaans, French, English and Dutch) and accompanied by a dazzling ensemble.
Du Toit has been singing Brel's songs since 1988, which have always been very well received by concertgoers and the media. Paul Boekkooi (Beeld) describes it as one of the brightest Brel presentations on the local stage to date.
"Jannie's recitation and singing are exactly where they should be: idiomatically rich and nuanced, with great diction and a voice that can risk a lot emotionally and dramatically. We have waited a long time for such a quality presentation." Lesley Stones writes in Daily Maverick "Du Toit is superb, with the gravitas and vocal power to do the songs justice. The music is provided brilliantly by Susan Mouton... and Chanie Jonker...".
The Brel shows will be in the Garden Route on the following dates:
- 18 December: Studio 42, Sedgefield.
Bookings: 083 302 1582 (Isobel) or studio42isalso@gmail.com. - 19 December: Dias Museum, Mossel Bay.
Bookings: Gaby Drews 084 251 0204 - 20 December: Community Hall, Nature's Valley.

This show promises to be an absolute must see - as Petrovna Metelerkamp said after the show in Onrusrivier: "Jannie, dankie weer vir die beste Brel wat ek nog beleef het!"
After a busy year, which included numerous highlights, this beloved musician is grateful for a break, but Jannie is also already planning his diary for 2024 - he looks forward to sharing his passion and talent with audiences for a long time to come.
2024 will kick off on a very high note when two special performances of his ever popular programme Doep is nie dood nie with the music of Koos du Plessis, will take place. The legend and undisputed master of Afrikaans literary folk music passing on 15 January 1984 is thereby recalled - forty years later.
The Afrikaans radio station RSG has scheduled the complete production to be broadcast live at 15:00 on Sunday 14 January, while it is presented in an exceptional way in the Atterbury Theater in Pretoria on the commemorative day of the 40 years: Monday, 15 January.
Particular grace is given to this evening by the addition to the show: Karla du Plessis (Koos' daughter), Andries (Roof) Bezuidenhout who is married to Koos' other daughter, Irma, Mathys Roets and other artists that have a close connection with Koos Doep and his music in one way or another, will take part in a one-off tribute at the end of the evening's program - definitely not to be missed.
