SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Jacques-Yves Cousteau described generosity perfectly when he said, "It takes generosity to discover the whole through others. If you realise you are only a violin, you can open yourself up to the world by playing your role in the concert."
The 9th annual Gourmets and Gourmands, championed by Hartman & Sons Butchery on behalf of Carpe Diem School, is truly an event where generosity is made visible. On 26 August, about 200 guests will witness again how big the hearts of the Southern Cape business community is when the sponsors "play their role in this concert".
This is the sixth consecutive year that Hartman & Sons Butchery is the premier sponsor of the Carpe Diem School's Gourmets & Gourmands. This family business believes a quality community caters for a quality workforce and therefore they strive to be an integral part of their community. Raffaele D'Amato Jewellers will contribute splendour to the event with their donation. Carpe Diem School is excited to have Nedbank on board as a sponsor. Nedbank's participation in the event underscores their policy of empowering the youth.
Other sponsors such as local artist René Scribante, Michael Pashut of Commercial Auto & Bus, Fancy Functions, Xerox and Rudy de Bruyn of Ciro Coffee contribute to making the event a success.
Carpe Diem School accommodates children from all over the Southern Cape (Riversdale, Albertinia, Mossel Bay, Hartenbos, Little Brak River, Great Brak River, George, Hoekwil, Sedgefield, Karatara, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, and the Crags) and the school forms a vital part of the Garden Route and Karoo communities. Funds raised during Gourmets and Gourmands have in the recent past been allocated to acquire four electric wheelchairs; a playroom and a room specifically designed for children with autism; to develop the computer centre; and to install a special floor for the basketball court used by their champion wheelchair learners. Allison Meiring, a Carpe Diem learner, recently received Springbok colours in the senior division for wheelchair basketball!
