GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Audiences all along the Garden Route can look forward to getting their dose of vitamin DD (that's Drag Diva) from Pichi Keane this winter.
The award-winning drag artist returns to Makhanda to celebrate the 50th annual National Arts Festival with her newest production and will be making some stops along the way, presenting both English and Afrikaans drag cabarets to old and new fans alike.
For English audiences, the offering is Freshly Squeezed, billed as a fiercely femme phenomenon. Afrikaans fans can enjoy Soetsappig, a juicy show full of fruit puns and some other - more intimate - revelations.
Pichi promises that both productions present a cabaret experience overflowing with even more hilarity and innuendo than before, and has cheekily dubbed the tour 'Fruit of my Loins'.
In both shows, Keane pokes fun at the patriarchy, investigates intersectional feminism and tries to contextualise the modern-day queer.
She effortlessly weaves a rich variety of musical genres into a tapestry of socio-political commentary.
A Keane cabaret is a rollercoaster ride and audiences are advised to fasten their seatbelts and leave their pearls at home.
