KNYSNA NEWS – The air was abuzz with energy as the Eden FM 20th Birthday Celebration Langarm Dance kicked off on Friday 26 May at the Hornlee Community Hall.
"The event has not only been a celebration of 20 years of existence but also of tremendous growth." says Morné Pieterson, Eden FM's station manager.
The station is currently broadcasting in seven major towns in the Garden Route and has amassed an audience of 188 000 listeners weekly. The radio broadcasts local news and information, their mandate being to inform, entertain and also educate its listeners.
The birthday celebrations kicked off in George with a massive high tea, attended by 500 people, in April.
The idea of the Langarm Dance was a request from the Knysna community, as they wanted to celebrate the beloved radio station's birthday in a jubilant manner.
Eden FM currently has four satellite broadcasting studios - in George, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay and Riversdale.
"We are so blessed that the station has grown in the hearts and the lives of the Garden Route community," says Pietersen. "What makes the station so unique is that we emphasise a local voice, we focus on what the community is experiencing. Their laughter, their joy and their pain are at the heart of our stories."
The event ended off with a lucky draw sponsored by Eden Beds, to win a brand-new bed to the value of R7 000. Eden FM wishes to thank the following sponsors: Creation Designs, SB Photography, Final Touches CCW Events and Entertainment, Jenny Davidson and Imanzi Paints George.
The winners of the lucky draw of the evening were Sonia and Koos Smith and Carolene and Mervyn Malgraaf.
