KNYSNA ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Laughter is key to the entertainment roster of Knysna Theatre, and the theatre hopes to get into its New Year's stride this month with three A-list comedy stars, on the bill for January.
Dalin Oliver, Mark Banks, and Aaron McIlroy, will all be taking to the stage in Knysna to share their views on the funny side of life.
Fresh from his nation-wide tour, Oliver is set to take the Garden Route by storm with his hit stand-up comedy show – Adulting. Written and performed by Oliver, and directed by Stuart Taylor, this laugh-a-line act showcases the swiftly-rising, teacher-turned-comedian and ace radio jock in action. Since turning 30, Oliver says people expect him to have it all together, when in actual fact, it's all falling apart.
Join Oliver as he spills the beans onstage in Adulting, at Knysna Theatre this evening and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday, 9 and 10 January) at 19:00, and on Saturday at 3pm.
Next week, 15 to 19 January, veteran comic Mark Banks comes out of hibernation to bring you a limited run of his new show, Mark Banks On Ice. Some nights, hints Banks, the Russian All-Star Mints will make a guest appearance. Banks admits he has no idea how these random, outrageous notions pop out of him. They just do. In this entirely new show, Mark discusses all the things most people have been obsessing over. Extreme Western Cape security measures; Elon Musk's plans for world domination; running into people from your high school who haven't died yet; and coping with life in general. Catch Mark Banks On Ice from 15 to 19 January with evening performances at 20:00 and a Sunday matinee at 15:00.
Comedy legend McIlroy will make his Knysna debut this month-end with his one-of-a-kind hit show, ADHD. This hilarious take on the 'problems' of ADHD and other 'disturbing behavioral patterns', is portrayed by South Africa's master of character comedy, as he takes you on a wild and wacky journey into the fantastical world of learning disorders.
Facts and theories are turned on their heads, as we get a bird's eye view into the chaotic and beautiful mind of McIlroy, who has lived with this 'gift' for the last half century. "If not exactly autobiographical, I certainly have inside information!" quips McIlroy, whose hugely popular brand of humour has spiced up the theatre scene over several decades. Billed as a comedic steamroller without GPS, ADHD plays the Knysna Theatre on Thursday and Friday, 30 and 31 January at 20:00, with a Saturday matinee performance on 1 February at 15:00.
