His performance is part of a campaign to generate funds to continue the legal battle against oil companies who are planning prospecting by means of fracking over an area of tens of thousands of square kilometres in the Karoo.
Conservationists, farmers, tourist orientated businesses and many other stakeholders are opposed to fracking in the Karoo and banners and posters in many Karoo towns are only a part of the ongoing awareness campaign to oppose the oil companies.
Newman’s concert will be his first to be held in Nieu-Bethesda. Tickets, which cost R100 can be booked by e-mail at accommodation@nieubethesda.com or by telephone: 049 841 1642.
The sentiment of Karoo inhabitants towards fracking is voiced clearly by this banner outside a Nieu-Bethesda restaurant.
