The senior fleet was sailing for the Commodores Cup, while the junior fleet sailed races counting for the Junior Championships.
Three races were sailed in a light south easterly, which faded towards the end and the last race had to be shortened. The junior fleet had 13 boats sailing. This fleet had a newcomer, a RS Feva XL, for the first time racing at GLYC club racing.
In the races the front of the junior fleet had the Laser 4.7's of Seth Young and Chris Brooks and the Feva, sailed by James and Ashleigh Hellstrom out in front. They were sailing against the slower Optimists and Tera Sport on handicap, but found it difficult to sail against their rating.
Overall, for the three races, team Divaris dominated - Georgou on Optimist won all three races, while younger brother Markos was second and third place was claimed by James Vonk (Optimist).
In the senior fleet the Fireball of David Laing and Mark Dee was able to finish in front of the fleet of 12 boats in all three races, but was also not able to sail to his rating compared to the smaller boats, most of which were Lasers.
In the first race Henry Paine was first Laser, but was beaten on handicap by John Marc Olivier on Laser Radial.
The second race was marked by Maurits Lammers rounding the first mark in 2nd place, even ahead of the Fireball, then the race was won by another new name in the rankings, Thomas Lammers, ahead of Malcolm Osborne (all on Laser).
The third race was sailed in even flukier wind and this allowed the GP14 of Jayan Smart and Rory Laing to get to the front of the fleet to claim this race on handicap with the Fireball being able to extend a lead enough to claim second place for this race. Overall Jayan Smart leads, but tied on points with Henry Paine.
John Marc Olivier is in 3rd place tied on points with Malcolm Osborne. It will take the next round of Commodores Cup racing (on 11 November) to resolve the final standings.
The focus of sailing next weekend shifts slightly eastwards when GLYC sailors will compete in the Knysna Yacht Club Inter Club Regatta being held this year on Swartvlei Lagoon.
