Central Beach was abuzz with excitement as 189 competitors from Kings Beach Club (PE), Summerstrand Club (PE), Hobie Beach Club (PE), East London Surf Club and Plettenberg Bay Surf Club participated in the various disciplines.
The children, between the ages of 8 and 14, enjoyed a beautiful, sunny Saturday and braved the wind and rain on the Sunday. It was the first time the Plett Surf Club won the trophy with a point-spread of 930 to Plett, 881 to Kings Beach, 628 to East London, 580 to Summerstrand and 360 to Hobie Beach.
Over the past three years, the Plett Surf Club has grown from a handful of Nippers to a current standing of approximately 60 Nippers. Plett Surf Nipper officer, Grant Butterworth said, "Plett Surf Nippers have really pulled out all the stops for such a successful event. Not only did our Nippers have a great time, they also went above and beyond to grasp the title. We are so proud of our Nippers and know they will do
us proud at nationals later this month".
The Nippers National Lifesaving Championships will take place over the weekend of March 30 to April 1 in Port Elizabeth.

Under-14 Plett Surf Nippers, Michelle de Kock and John Barry Coleman (both multiple medal winners) were presented the coveted Eastern Cape Champions’ trophy.
