Day one of competition was called off due to rough sea and bad weather conditions.
At the end of day two the Southern Cape team was in forth place, with Carel Bruwer ending in overall forth place.
Day three produced some fine catches and saw the team ending overall second with Gerhard Barnard in third position, the best individual position for the team.
Day four's fishing was limited to the harbour area due to bad weather conditions, but despite this the team showed great fishing skills in unfavourable conditions. The team ended in first place for the day and Chahn Barnard was the top angler overall for the day.
On the final day the team produced yet another fine performance and ended first yet again, with Gerhard Barnard in overall forth position.
Southern Cape finished in joint first place with North West Province on 28 points, but unfortunately North West outnumbered the Southern Cape juniors on average weight, pushing the Southern Cape team into second position.
Individually the team member results at the championships were:
Carel Bruwer second, seventh overall, Chahn Barnard forth, Gerhard Barnard sixth and Ruaan Stander 14th.
Skippers for the teams were Gerrie Barnard of the Knysna Angling Club and Ian Barnard of Mossel Bay. Barnard was awarded as third best skipper at the championship.
Two team members, Carel Bruwer of Knysna and Chahn Barnard of Mossel Bay achieved SALTBAA colours (junior Protea colours) - Bruwer in the u/21 and Barnard in the u/16 category. They will participate in the 2012 South African Championships at Vanderkloof Dam in the Free State as part of the SALTBAA team.
