RUGBY NEWS - There is still nearly half the competition to be played but this past weekend probably extinguished any hopes that the other teams in the South African Conference might have harboured of catching the Lions.
After their three-match blip that started with their shock defeat to the Blues, the Lions have recovered well and their excellent start to their overseas tour against the Waratahs, which followed their 50 pointer against the Stormers two weeks ago, has confirmed them as the outstanding local team.
Theoretically the Bulls, who are clearly the team that is emerging as the future challenger to the Lions’ local hegemony, can still catch the Lions. They are 11 points adrift but have a game in hand, which means that if they keep winning and the Lions drop some games it could still be close.
