KNYSNA NEWS - Greater Knysna Rugby Club (GKRC) travelled to Plettenberg Bay recently for their very important away fixture in the SWD Coastal League.
The visitors, missing a lot of key players, were made to wait an extra 30 minutes on Saturday 28 April as the host had to ark the field properly before the game could start.
Greater Knysna started with a bang, forcing Plett United into making some mistakes. After an early missed penalty kick, the visitors scored first, with Craig Kamoetie who played in an unfamiliar position at scrum half nipping around the ruck to score.
From the restart, Greater Knysna forced their way back into Plett United's half with Vincent Arendse setting Ludwe Vara up for his first try of the match.
Plett started to fight back slightly but a good turnover ball and a quality tactical kick by captain Nkululeko Magweba saw Kamoetie scoring his second try of the match. The conversion was followed by the halftime whistle, leaving GKRC in the lead with 17 points to none.
Plett United started the second half like a team possessed and kept Greater Knysna under constant pressure. Two penalties later the score had changed to 17-6, still in GKRC's favour.

Plett kept on attacking and building pressure, forcing GKRC into making mistake upon mistake. Neither team could add to the score for the biggest part of the second half though, and Greater Knysna could only secure the bonus point try in the last movement of the game with what could be rated as the try of the day, according to GKRC coach Aschin Klein.
Masxole Mbilase started a counterattack from his own 22m line which ended in Vara scoring his second try of the game.
The game ended in a 22-6 victory for GKRC, which meant they remain undefeated so far. Now they wait for their toughest test of the season on 5 May against Excelsiors from Wittedrift at Loerie Park sports field. The winner in this matchup will become the new log leaders in the SWD Coastal League.
