KNYSNA NEWS - The 20-year-old Greater Knysna lock Kurt Prinsloo played a decisive role in demolishing Pro Stars from George recently, making Greater Knysna Rugby Club the first Knysna team to finish the ordinary league phase in any SWD competitions unbeaten. He was declared man of the match.
Greater Knysna hosted Pro Stars from George in their last group fixture of the 2018 rugby season at Loerie Park in Knysna last Saturday. Their 51-22 defeat over the visitors made them the only rugby team in SWD to remain undefeated.
The youngsters of Greater Knysna made life difficult for the visitors with players like Prinsloo, Robin (Bantam) Lamini, JP Duplesis, Cullen Cole and Bradley Kiewitz causing pain every time they got their hands on the ball.
The visitors did not just play dead. At times they had the hosts grabbing at air with great running lines that earned them two beautiful tries before the halftime whistle.
The try of the day was scored by Greater Knysna captain Justin Damons who received the final pass after great forward interplay.
The biggest concern for the coaching staff this week ahead of the quarterfinals will be their poor kicking form – having only converted three of the nine tries.
Greater Knysna Rugby Club will now host Universals in a home quarterfinal match this coming weekend. It has also qualified for a home semifinal (and ultimately the final, should the team progress there).
